A Little About Us

Meet the Waters Family

When Tim Waters founded W2 Accounting in 1991, his vision was clear: to serve the small business community surrounding Athens, Georgia with first-rate tax, accounting, and payroll services. And that is exactly what he did, as he built the firm from the ground up to eventually serving many great, small businesses in the Athens area community. In 2020, Tim officially turned the business over to his sons, Andy and Adam.

For anyone who knows W2, these two are familiar faces and have been an integral part of the business since they started helping out with small office tasks throughout their high school years (ask them about the time they led the janitorial department). Today, Andy is a CPA and Adam is an Enrolled Agent. Tim continues to serve in an advisory capacity—so you might just see him hanging around the office from time to time.

Andy Waters

CPA / Owner

Andy is the elder of the two Waters brothers. For the better part of two decades, he pursued a corporate tax career as a CPA at PricewaterhouseCoopers. In 2020, the magnetic pull of family time proved too great, and once more, Andy landed back in the family office. His expertise from nearly two decades at PwC has been key to his hands-on approach at W2. When he’s not masterfully crunching numbers in Excel, Andy can be found tailgating at UGA games or hanging with his best girl (Susan, a pitbull mix).

Adam Waters

EA / Owner

Adam is the younger Waters brother and he has been with W2 Accounting since graduating from UGA in 2005. He serves as the firm’s controller and also specializes in individual tax. Since joining W2, Adam has enjoyed passing his tax knowledge onto clients in common sense terms and fancies himself a professor of tax theory. He also utilizes his keen design eye as he decorates and redecorates his office time and time again. Looking for pointers on how to pick out a nice suit or select a stylish sofa? Adam’s your guy.

Ashley Waters

Office Manager

Notice a bright, smiling face when you walk through the front door of W2 Accounting? More likely than not, you’ve encountered Ashley—and hands off because she’s Adam’s wife! Ashley serves as the firm’s office manager and knows the ins and outs of what’s required to keep the W2 office up and running smoothly.

Morgan Riley

Tax and Accounting

With over 15 years of experience in accounting, Morgan is one of our go-tos for tax and accounting concerns. She rejoined our team in 2023 (she also worked for us part-time when she was in school), and we are so glad to have her back in the office, helping us with all phases of accounting, payroll, and tax. Morgan is a former gymnast and can often be found doing backflips around the office.

As mentioned, Charlsey is the daughter of Kristy. Turns out that bookkeeping runs in the genes—and we’re glad for it—as this means we get two Bunn bookkeepers on our staff.  Charlsey has been with W2 Accounting since 2017, offering first-rate bookkeeping services that keep our clients happy.

Tim Waters

Founder

Accountant Emeritus. Founder. Dad. Call him what you want, but there’s no doubt about it: Without Tim Waters, there’d be no W2 Accounting. Before starting W2 Accounting in 1991, Tim wore many hats. He worked as a brick mason, bus driver, and controller for a cable company. He’s worked in banking and insurance, and even briefly owned a Chevron service station in the 1980s (ask him how much gas prices have gone up since then!). He knows a great deal about so many things but knows even more when it comes to accounting. No matter what issue a client may face, he always had a solution, thanks to his extensive knowledge of accounting, payroll, and taxation.
